I'm cleaning out my closest to by some updated clothes, but i can't decide on what to get rid of, help?

yeah, i have a TON of clothes, about 75% are hand me downs too. i'm planning on doing some early spring cleaning and to go through all my clothes and sell what i don't want to consignment shops (everything is still in good condition, things that i really ratty im just throwing out); but i can't decide what to get rid of. i mean i literally only have a pile of 7 things and i've gone threw 1/4 of my clothes. i feel like i'm too attack to my clothes (sounds weird i know haha) but an old t-shirt i haven't worn in two years brings back memories, or a cardigan i have i haven't worn into over a year might come in handy a few months from now. this is getting really frustrating, do you follow any rules when you clean out your closest on what to keep and what not to keep? thanks!!
