Cydia immediately returns to the spring board?

I have an iPod touch 4g and it has iOS 4.2.1 I jailbroke it with redsnow 0.9.6 beta 4 and installed cydia but when ever I try to open it it immediately returns to the spring board and I can't use ssh as I have never been in cydia does any one know how I can fix this
